The Mental Health Safe Project (MH Safe) has relied on John Lande’s RPS Coach, a ChatGPT interface, for a variety of purposes including the AI Messenger Model.

In 2021, John Lande connected with MH Safe founder Dan Berstein and was instrumental in the development of the Mental Health Safe Project. John revealed he had been a reviewer recommending publication of Dan’s book Mental Health and Conflicts, and John mentored Dan while he was facing avoidance from many in the dispute resolution community who did not appreciate Dan’s advocacy work. As part of that mentorship, John guided Dan through developing a Theory of Change to shape his efforts to reduce mental illness stigma and discrimination in the dispute resolution world and beyond. That model still serves as the theoretical underpinnings of all of the MH Safe work.
Unfortunately, at the end of 2022 John decided it was too emotionally draining to communicate with Dan and he let Dan know that he planned to never communicate with him again. This was upsetting, but Dan accepted the boundary. In 2025, when John released an AI tool that was freely available to the public and which was designed to speak in John’s voice and rely on John’s writings – Dan was excited at this new way to get help that incorporated John’s perspective and insights. RPS Coach has been a major boon to MH Safe. RPS Coach reviewed two e-mail exchanges between Dan and John, where John explained why he did not want to communicate with Dan any longer, and it wrote an article about how AI can be available to us when a person is not.
Coincidentally, five days after RPS Coach generated this article, John began publicly seeking testimonials for RPS Coach. Then he directly asked Dan to provide one as well.
