DisabilityRadar.com

MH Safe launched DisabilityRadar.com as a hub for resources to stop mental illness profiling (or “radars” targeting people who seem to have mental health problems for screening or social exclusion).

This website is currently housed at MH Safe, with www.disabilityradar.com forwarding to www.mhsafe.org/radar. The content may eventually be moved to its own separate website.

DETECTED, DIMINISHED, AND DISCARDED:
When Disability “Radars” Target You For Exclusion

The Mental Health Safe Project has been circulating a private working draft of a set of easy-to-use tools for understanding mental illness and disability screening “radar” approaches. It includes the following one-page documents:

I. What “Radars” Are Targeting People With Mental Illnesses?

II. Ready for “Radar”
Tools For People Facing Possible Social Exclusion “Radar”

  • Recognizing “Radar”: How can you tell who may be engaging in some kind of “radar” of social exclusion?
  • Recovering From “Radar”: How will you cope with painful stigma and the burdens and disadvantages from being socially excluded?
  • Reporting “Radar”: How can you report someone who has given you disparate treatment based on possible “radar”?

III. Reaching Radar Proponents
Tools to Help People Evolve Beyond Social Exclusion “Radar”

  • Revealing “Radar”: How can you help people understand that they might unwittingly be using “radar” and that it is harmful?
  • Resisting “Radar”: How can people stop engaging in biased “radar” practices?
  • Replacing “Radar”: What are the ways people can replace “radar” so they can address challenges?
