MH Safe’s Trauma-Informed Response Initiative (TRI) is leading an effort to create an independent Trauma-Informed Addendum for the Model Standards of Conduct for Mediators.
Trauma-informed practices emphasize safety, transparency, collaboration, empowerment, support, and appreciation of cultural and individual differences.
This project aims to supplement the Model Standards of Conduct for Mediators with trauma-informed guidance that helps mediators anticipate and address any distress or communication challenge that may come from themselves or the parties. The addendum will focus on three key areas:
[1] promoting accessibility for parties
[2] addressing mediator distress and needs
[3] providing effective methods for collecting feedback and responding to mediator misconduct.
